The 2020 Australian Open has started off in full force and tennis fans worldwide are eagerly waiting to catch their favorite stars in action. The last edition was won by Novak Djokovic (men) and Naomi Osaka (women). While there are a few regular favorites to win the coveted titles in 2020 as well, here’s taking a look at 5 emerging players who can upset the applecart and give top-seeded players a run for their money.
Daniil Medvedev– The Russian player is one of the most promising young stars in the world of tennis at the moment. The 23-year old will be venturing into the 2020 Australian Open as a potential favorite to give the Big Three a serious run for their money. He performed amazingly at the 2019 U.S. Open where he was runners-up after an exciting final match against Rafael Nadal. He is world number 4 at the moment and will be looking to continue his amazing run of form.- Sofia Kenin- This United States tennis player may be a strong contender
at the 2020 Australian Open. The 21-year old star has already won 7 titles since the year 2017 when she turned professional and has racked up 191 victories in the women’s singles category out of a tally of 303 games. She is world number 15 at the moment and will have to improve on her rather dismal record at the Grand Slams. - Dominic Thiem- The 26-year old Austrian has already won 16 men’s singles career titles and is world number 5 at the moment. He has been in the finals twice at the French Open where he lost twice to Rafael Nadal. He ventured into the 4
th round at the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Australian Open, crashing out both times. He has improved his game considerably and may finally upset the top seeds this time. - Dayana Yastremska- The 19-year old Ukrainian tennis player has played well in 2019, winning a couple of WTA titles and in 2019, she lost in the 3
rd round at the Australian Open. In the 2020 edition, the world number 22 will be looking to make up with some scintillating performances. Her talent makes her a serious contender this year. - Stefanos Tsitsipas- The 21-year old tennis player from Greece is seriously talented and in rollicking form at the moment. He won the 2019 ATP Finals after defeating Dominic Thiem by a 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 margin. He has played well previously at the Australian Open, being a semi-finalist in 2019 where he lost to Rafael Nadal. This time, Tsitsipas has the potential to venture even further and give some serious competition to his more illustrious opponents.
These are the 5 top emerging players who can upset some of the top seeded players at the 2020 Australian Open. They certainly have the talent and skill to do so!
