NFL in Germany 2023: Exciting Games and More

NFL

The NFL is set to return to Germany in 2023 with two regular-season games scheduled to be played at Frankfurt Stadium as part of the NFL International Series. Here’s what you need to know about these upcoming American football games in Europe:

Game 1:

  • Date: Sunday, 5 November 2023
  • Teams: Miami Dolphins vs. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Venue: Frankfurt Stadium
  • Kick-off: 3:30pm CEST

Game 2:

  • Date: Sunday, 12 November 2023

  • Venue: Frankfurt Stadium
  • Kick-off: 3:30pm CEST

The NFL International Series has been taking American football games outside of the United States since 2007, starting with matches in London and later expanding to Mexico and Germany. Germany joined the lineup in 2022, and an agreement was made to host games in Munich and Frankfurt over a four-year period.

The first game in Germany took place in 2022 at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Seattle Seahawks. In 2023, it was decided that two games would be played at Eintracht Frankfurt’s home stadium, with the Miami Dolphins taking on the Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Indianapolis Colts facing the New England Patriots the following weekend.

The Bundesliga is collaborating with the NFL to make these sporting events in Germany even more exciting. The Dolphins vs. Chiefs game coincides with the Bundesliga’s “Der Klassiker” match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, last season’s top two teams in the Bundesliga, which will be played on the preceding Saturday.

The Bundesliga also held a prize draw for a “Week of Football” where one fortunate winner received tickets for both Der Klassiker and the Dolphins-Chiefs game, including travel and accommodation, during the weekend of 4-5 November. Additionally, there were nine sets of two tickets available for either of the NFL games in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt, as the host city, is Germany’s fifth-largest city, known for its financial prominence and a blend of modern skyscrapers with the charm of its old town, including Römerberg square, which hosts a historic Christmas market every year. The NFL games will be played at Eintracht’s Deutsche Bank Park, a renowned football stadium with a seating capacity of 51,500. This stadium has previously hosted various events, including concerts and boxing matches.

One notable feature of the stadium is its 37,500 m² tent roof, designed to resemble a rim with spokes, making it the “world’s largest convertible” stadium. If you plan to attend the games or explore Frankfurt, there is a guide available with information on how to get there and what to eat in the city.

Both the Bundesliga and the NFL represent the highest level of their respective sports, making these games a significant sporting event for fans of both football and American football in Germany.
