Bundesliga 2023/24 Winter Break Overview

As the Bundesliga resumes after the winter break, each club is gearing up for the second half of the season with training sessions, friendly matches, and preparations for upcoming league fixtures.

Defending champions Bayern Munich returned to training on 2 January, with an open session on the same day. They are scheduled for a training camp in Faro, Portugal, from 14 to 18 January. Bayern Munich played a friendly match against Basel on 6 January and will face Hoffenheim in their first league match on 12 January.

Bayer Leverkusen resumed training on 3 January and played a friendly against Venezia on 7 January. They will face Augsburg on 13 January in their first league match after the break.

Freiburg returned to training on 2 January, with an open session on 4 January. They played a closed-door friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on 6 January and will host Union Berlin in their first league match on 13 January.

RB Leipzig started training on 2 January and had a training camp in La Manga, Spain, from 2 to 7 January. Their first league match after the break is against Eintracht Frankfurt on 13 January.

Eintracht Frankfurt also returned to training on 2 January and will play friendly matches against Freiburg on 6 January and Sandhausen on 14 January. Their first league match is against RB Leipzig on 13 January.

Union Berlin resumed training on 2 January and played a friendly against Arminia Bielefeld on 6 January. They will face Freiburg on 13 January in the league.

Borussia Dortmund started training on 2 January and had a training camp in Marbella, Spain, from 3 to 9 January. They played friendlies against AZ Alkmaar on 6 January and Standard Liège on 9 January. Their first league match after the break is against Darmstadt on 13 January.

Wolfsburg returned to training on 2 January and had a training camp in Almancil, Portugal, from 2 to 7 January. Their first league match is away at Mainz on 13 January.

Borussia Mönchengladbach resumed training on 2 January and played a friendly against Go Ahead Eagles on 6 January. They will face Stuttgart in their first league match on 14 January.

Werder Bremen returned to training on 2 January and will play a friendly against Eintracht Braunschweig on 7 January. Their first league match after the break is against Bochum on 14 January.

Mainz started training on 1 January, with an open session, and had a training camp in Marbella, Spain, from 2 to 7 January. Their first league match is against Wolfsburg on 13 January.

Hoffenheim resumed training on 2 January and will play a friendly against Augsburg on 6 January. Their first league match after the break is away at Bayern Munich on 12 January.

Cologne returned to training on 2 January and will play a friendly against Rot-Weiss Essen on 6 January. Their first league match is against Heidenheim on 13 January.

Augsburg resumed training on 2 January and will play a friendly against Hoffenheim on 6 January. They will face Bayer Leverkusen in their first league match on 13 January.

Heidenheim returned to training on 1 January and had a training camp in Algorfa, Spain, from 2 to 9 January. Their first league match after the break is away at Cologne on 13 January.

VfB Stuttgart started training on 2 January and will play a closed-door friendly against Greuther Fürth on 6 January. Their first league match is away at Gladbach on 14 January.

Bochum returned to training on 2 January and will play friendlies against Groningen on 6 January and Vitesse Arnhem on 7 January. Their first league match is against Werder Bremen on 14 January.

Darmstadt resumed training on 2 January and had a training camp in El Saler, Spain, from 2 to 7 January. They will play a friendly against Holstein Kiel on 6 January and their first league match is against Borussia Dortmund on 13 January.

The Bundesliga 2 teams also have a series of friendly fixtures scheduled during the winter break, providing an opportunity for additional preparation before the league resumes.
