Perfect start for M7 ES at Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival

Dubai Crown Prince

M7 Endurance Stables opened their Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival campaign on a winning note at the Dubai International Endurance City in Seeh Al Salam as Argentina’s Milena Mendez made easy work of winning the first race of the competition, which was the Ladies Ride which spanned over 101 km on Tuesday.

On the 13-year old Poli, owned by Mohammed Ahmad Al Subosi, Mendes was able to finish off the four loop race with a final time of 3:29:12, reaching an average speed of 28.97kph responding well to the end of each loop.

ABH Endurance Stables’ Sara Mohammed Ahmed and Rushoz Lieutenant were clocked at 3:29:21, falling just nine seconds behind Mendez. Fatma Abdulla Abbas’s M7 Endurance Stables and her horse Willowmere Encore came third ranging the estimate within 3:29:25 for the last spot at the podium.

Mendez was quite a formidable competitor in the 2001 UAE Woman Competition clinching the first spot in the CEN 100 km HH The President of the UAE Cup, and again succeeded in 2023 outdoing everyone else at the Al Fahidi Endurance Cup at DIEC. Among those finals she stood first in, her last victory before them was in 2023, marking her advancement in the HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cup for Ladies.

The Argentine rider, however, was adamant in returning to her winning ways, and exerted every effort to remain close to the pace being set by Massa Tonbakji who was riding Al Wathba Stables’ Bahiaa during the first leg which was 35 km in length.

As Giussani strutted about DS Creston, Tonbakji allowed the Italian switch so that Veronica Giussani of Al Maghaweer Stables can take control over the second and third legs.

Giussani appeared to be in command in the beginning of the 20 km leg which was her fourth and final loop, but she was dismounted during a metabolic and thus Mendez was given the chance to proceed.

Mendez was on the consistent aggressive side throughout and cooperated well with her squad’s tactics to ensure she earned the title. She started off sixth after the first and second loops, and made a conscious move to 12th place during the third loop before compelling Poli to aim for a huge winning effort which guaranteed her a landslide victory.

In partnership with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, the Dubai Equestrian Club has organized the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival which includes four rides of which the Ladies section starts first followed by the Dubai Crown Prince Ride which is open for Private Stables.

The third scheduled ride is the Yamamah Endurance Cup for Mares, 120 kilometres, on January 10, while the showpiece event is the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup 120km which will be held on January 11..
