South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt reclaimed the number one position in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings on Tuesday. She overtook India skipper Smriti Mandhana for the top spot. Mandhana lost valuable ranking points following scores of 32 and zero in the recent series against Zimbabwe in Vadodara.
Indian Players Benefit From Series Win
Despite Mandhana’s drop, several Indian players made significant gains. India secured the ICC Women’s Championship series against Zimbabwe with consecutive victories. Former captain Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Deepti Sharma both scored centuries in the second match. Kaur moved up two places to eighth in the ODI batting rankings. Sharma climbed four spots to 23rd on the same list.
All-Rounders And Bowlers Make Ground
Sharma also improved her standing in other statistical categories. The experienced player rose two places to fourth among ODI all-rounders. She gained one spot to reach eighth in the bowling rankings. Teammate Kranti Gaud moved up two places to 25th in the bowling list. Meanwhile, young Indian batter Pratika Rawal jumped seven places to a career-best 21st position.
Movements In T20I Rankings
The latest update also reflected changes in the T20I format. Shafali Verma moved up one spot to third among T20I batters. Mandhana gained one place to reach fourth on the same list. Elsewhere, Australian players Ash Gardner, Georgia Wareham and Kim Garth improved their rankings following their recent trans-Tasman series against New Zealand.
