Afghanistan Creates History In Test Cricket, Becomes First Asian Team

Afghanistan concluded the Test series against Zimbabwe with victory at Bulawayo. The home side dismissed Zimbabwe for 205 in the second innings to clinch the two-match series 1-0. It was a 0-0 first Test. Afghanistan went down in history books and made history with the series win. 

Afghanistan was the first Asian side to ever lift their first Test series outside of Asia. The Asians mostly sank on their first Test tours beyond the continent. 

Only 9 series separated Sri Lanka and Pakistan to take their first series outside Asia. Afghanistan, who last played in Tests in 2018, have done it in their first series. 

Rashid Khan was named Player of the Match

For the fight Rashid Khan was awarded the Player of the Match prize. He grabbed four-fer as Afghanistan out batted Zimbabwe for 243 in the second innings of the match. Afghanistan lost 157 for just 157 in the first innings. 

They were on fire after that and put on a blistering 363 to the scoreboard. Requested to chase 278, Zimbabwe were dismissed for 205. Rashid had a seven-fer in the last innings. 

The opening Test of the series stayed level after long first innings by both sides. Choosing to bat first, Zimbabwe churned out a whopping 586 on the board. The big scores were passed by Sean Williams, Craig Ervine and Brian Bennett who each had hundreds.

Afghanistan took the 3 T20I series 2-1. Zimbabwe started the series winning the first two games but falling in the rest. The first ODI got cancelled on rain. The 2nd and 3rd ODI matches were completed by Afghanistan which secured the series 2-0.
