Indian Premier League is one of the biggest T20 Cricket Tournament in India organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Every Year many International Players gather to play this league. Indian Premier League inaugural edition was started in 2008. The founder of IPL is Lalit Modi.

IPL will have 8 teams in all and 56 round robin matches. Teams that rank in the top 4 of the IPL points table will be going to the qualifiers of IPL 2020. The IPL standings and points are worked out on the following basis-
- Win- 2 points
- Loss- 0 points
- Draw- 1 Point
In case two teams have the same points in the IPL table after the round robin stage is finished, teams which have a higher net run rate (NRR) will be higher-ranked in the table.
Fun Facts Related to IPL:
- No IPL team has ever gone into the qualifiers with lower than 14 points in IPL history until the 2018 IPL. However, IPL 2019 witnessed the Sunrisers Hyderabad team qualifying with only 12 points.
- 5 out of 13 teams have earned 22 points for one season in the IPL which is the highest in the last 10 seasons of the tournament.
- KKR and Deccan Chargers are the only teams who have won the IPL trophy without ever finishing at first position in the IPL table.
- Deccan Chargers and Delhi Capitals are the only teams who have got four points in a single IPL season which is the lowest points tally for any team.
- Delhi Capitals has achieved the first position in the IPL points table twice although they have never won the tournament.
Other Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 Key Updates
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has already confirmed that the auctions will take place in Kolkata on 19th December this year for IPL 2020. The franchises have been notified that the trading window for players will close on the 14th of November this year.
Franchises were initially allocated Rs. 85 crore for spending at the auctions for IPL 2020. They also have an additional Rs. 3 crore and balance amounts from their purses from the IPL 2019 auctions. Delhi Capitals has the highest balance of Rs. 8.2 crore and Rajasthan Royals have Rs. 7.15 crore as their balance. KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) have Rs. 6.05 crore as their balance amount while Sunrisers Hyderabad have Rs. 5.3 crore.
Kings XI Punjab have just Rs. 3.7 crore while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have Rs. 3.2 crore. The Mumbai Indians have Rs. 3.05 crore while Royal Challengers Bangalore have to make do with Rs. 1.8 crore as their balance amount. This will be a small auction for IPL 2020 prior to the franchises working out fresh teams for the auction in 2021. The last major auction was held in 2018 with franchises allowed to retain just 5 players each.
