5 Unsold Players of IPL 2019 who could get huge amount in IPL 2020 Auction

The IPL auctions are naturally very important since they determine the final composition of every franchise. Players’ career trajectories are also determined by the bids they receive and whether they receive IPL contracts or not. There are some players who do not find takers in every IPL auction and there were quite a few who did not find an IPL team in the 2019 edition.

However, with the 2020 IPL on the anvil, there are some players who might land massive bids in spite of going unsold in the 2019 IPL auctions.

1. Chris Woakes: Chris Woakes debuted for KKR in the 2017 IPL and was one of their prominent players in the edition, taking 17 wickets in 13 games. He was one of the most expensive purchases in IPL 2018 although he disappointed for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before being released prior to the 2019 IPL auction. He did not get any bids in the IPL 2019 auction due to his hefty base price and also fears of him missing out on the later stages of the tournament due to national duty.

He could however draw massive bids in the IPL 2020 auctions since he has tasted success recently in all formats for the England national team. Woakes is a skilled bowler, able to take early wickets with the new ball and is also known for being a handy batter down the order.

2. Jason Holder: Jason Holder, the West Indian all-rounder, is one of the best players in the Test match format. He has led the team superbly over the last year and is known for his hitting power. He also bowls well and led Barbados Tridents to their second title in the recently held Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Holder has 77 wickets from 100 T20 games and his economy rate is decent at 7.66. He also has 706 runs with a strike rate above 120.

He can be an excellent all-rounder for several IPL franchises and may draw massive bids after being unsold for the last two editions of the tournament. He last played in the 2016 IPL for KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders).

3. James Neesham: James Neesham has not contributed significantly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) till now. He was purchased by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2014 but played just 4 games. He then shifted to KKR in the next season but was ruled out of the whole tournament with an injury. Ever since, Neesham has remained unsold in the IPL auctions.

Yet, the auctions for IPL 2020 may see him getting some good bids from franchises since he has now established himself as a skilled all-rounder in the T20 format. He played a vital role in the New Zealand team’s successful 2019 ICC World Cup journey where they reached the finals. Neesham is a capable seam bowler who can bowl well in the death overs and is a good fielder as well. He has 102 wickets in T20s along with 1,462 runs at a strike rate close to 140 which shows his abilities with the bat too.

4. Kusal Perera: Kusal Perera has earned immense goodwill from cricketing fans for his exploits at the top of the order for the Sri Lankan national team. He also played a vital role in the victory against South Africa earlier in 2019. Perera refused the IPL contract that he was offered by Sunrisers Hyderabad for replacing David Warner in the team earlier since he wanted to get back his position in the Sri Lankan Test team.

He has now succeeded in achieving this objective and is a regular player for the national team in all formats. He has played 39 T20Is for Sri Lanka, scoring a decent tally of 1,071 runs with a strike rate of 136. He may draw huge bids from many IPL franchises since he can be an effective and attacking opening batsman in the shorter format of the game.

5. Hazratullah Zazai: Hazratullah Zazai is a talented, aggressive and skilled young player who has made his mark in recent times. He played a knock of 162 runs (not out) in only 62 balls against Ireland, dispatching 16 sixes and 11 fours in his innings. This was the highest team total put up in a T20 game, i.e. 278 runs.

The left-hander has played 39 T20 matches till date and scored 1,282 runs at a strike rate of 160. He was also a part of the top-10 rankings for T20 batsmen globally due to his consistent performances. In spite of his prowess with the bat, Zazai went unsold at the auctions for IPL 2019. Yet, IPL 2020 will be a different ball game and Zazai could draw sizable bids from IPL franchises due to his proven skills and impressive stats.
