Alex Caruso sustained a right ankle sprain during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 125-114 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday. This setback worsens an ongoing injury crisis for the franchise.
Caruso Leaves The Court
Caruso left the game in the final two minutes of the second quarter. The Thunder held a 61-47 lead at the time. Head coach Mark Daigneault later confirmed the injury is an ankle sprain and ruled out any other structural damage. The team expected Caruso to play extended minutes this week. This expectation followed recent severe injuries to other starting players.
Mounting Casualties For Oklahoma City
The Thunder are currently navigating a depleted roster. Starters Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace sustained long-term injuries during Sunday’s victory over the LA Clippers. Both players require surgery and face extended periods on the sidelines. Furthermore, centre Chet Holmgren missed Monday’s game due to patellar tendinitis in his right knee. The medical staff has not confirmed a return date for Holmgren.
Rookies Step Up In Absence
Despite the difficult injury situation, younger players delivered strong performances against Phoenix. Ajay Mitchell started in place of Williams and provided a significant offensive boost. Mitchell finished the game with a career-high 30 points. Jared McCain started for Wallace and contributed 18 points. The Thunder must now rely on this depth to maintain their momentum in the Western Conference.
