UAE Captain Ahmad Skaik Thriving at World Amateur Team Championships

UAE captain Ahmad Skaik is eagerly anticipating the 2023 World Amateur Team Championships to be held at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. He is looking forward to testing his skills against some of the world’s best golfers in this prestigious event.

Skaik will be joined by Rayan Ahmed, the current UAE Junior Order of Merit winner, and Thomas Nesbitt, the 2023 Robert Rock Abu Dhabi Championship winner.

Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism, the men’s Eisenhower Trophy is scheduled to take place from October 18 to 21, followed by the women’s Espirito Santo Trophy from October 25 to 28.

Representing the UAE in such a significant international event is an immense honor for Skaik, and he is especially thrilled to do so on home soil. He expressed his excitement about the opportunity and pride in serving as the captain. Having faced limitations due to injury last year, he eagerly anticipates the upcoming challenge.

Rayan Ahmed, who secured a top-ten finish at the 2023 European Golf Championships, considers participating in this tournament a dream come true. He looks forward to testing his skills against some of the world’s finest golfers who have graced the same event in the past, including legends like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm.

The women’s team includes Jamie Camero, the 2023 Faldo Series Middle East Championship winner, Intissar Rich, the 2022 All African Challenge Trophy champion, and Lara El Chaib, who achieved victory in two events in England last year. They are all excited to represent the UAE in the Espirito Santo Trophy and compete on the challenging Abu Dhabi Golf Club course, which has previously hosted the HSBC Championship.

Jamie Camero expressed her enthusiasm for the World Amateur Team Championships, where she will have the opportunity to learn from the best amateur players worldwide and showcase her talent in front of a home crowd.

Intissar Rich, who has previously competed in Ladies European Tour events, is excited about representing the UAE and looks forward to playing alongside her teammates on this demanding course.

Both tournaments are expected to feature 36 countries, each with two or three playing representatives. Among the participants are some of the top amateur players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, including the current World Number One, Christo Lamprecht.

Christo Lamprecht, a 22-year-old South African, gained recognition earlier this year when he took the first-round lead at the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club with an impressive score of 66. He emphasized the privilege of representing his country and expressed his eagerness to compete alongside fellow South Africans. Lamprecht sees this event as an opportunity to make history for his nation.

As the UAE gears up to host the World Amateur Team Championships, golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing the nation’s talent on the global stage. With passionate players like Ahmad Skaik, Rayan Ahmed, Jamie Camero, Intissar Rich, and Lara El Chaib, the UAE is poised to make its mark in this prestigious tournament.
