Top cricket stars including Amelia Kerr, Deepti Sharma, and Deandra Dottin are gearing up for the first-ever Weber WBBL player draft.
The inaugural Weber WBBL player draft is set to witness the participation of cricket superstars Amelia Kerr, Deepti Sharma, and Deandra Dottin, among others. This historic event has attracted 116 players from 19 countries, eager to secure a spot in WBBL|09. Additionally, a unique “Direct Nominations” approach has been adopted by six players, including Suzie Bates, Tammy Beaumont, Sophia Dunkley, Amy Jones, Mignon du Preez, and Lizelle Lee, allowing them to bypass the draft and directly sign with a WBBL club, albeit with certain salary limitations.
The draft introduces enticing financial incentives for players, with those selected in the first round at the platinum level receiving $110,000, and gold and silver tier players earning $90,000 and $65,000, respectively. Brisbane Heat fans are excited about the inclusion of Amelia Kerr, who is eligible for retention, while star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma remains open for drafting.
The draft opens doors for global players to join the competition, with names like Ireland’s Orla Prendergast, USA’s Tara Norris, and Bangladesh’s Jahanara Alam expressing interest. Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Renegades, and Perth Scorchers have secured the top three picks through a weighted lottery system. The overseas player draft is scheduled for September 3, and the event will be televised on Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports. This new initiative highlights the evolution of women’s cricket, offering a platform for international talent to thrive and contribute to the sport’s growth..For more related updates, visit our official website!
