Anrich Nortje – fast bowler – is out of Champions Trophy due to a back injury on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old’s latest injury blow came from Cricket South Africa a day after he was named in his nation’s 15-man team for the tournament in Pakistan next month.
Nortje, the former fastest bowler in international cricket, was scanned on Monday, CSA says in a statement, “and the extent of the injury was discovered”.
The sentence did not say what the injury was.

Nortje, who has appeared in 19 Tests, 22 one-day internationals and 42 T20 internationals, has not played international cricket since last June’s T20 World Cup final in Barbados.
He was on track to return last month against Pakistan but broke his toe batting in the nets.
Nortje was also disqualified from the current SA20 franchise tournament in which he was to play for Pretoria Capitals.
The successor will be announced later, CSA told me.
