After an impressive century for Australia just last week, the young batting sensation Phoebe Litchfield continued her stellar form by making a match-winning debut for the Northern Superchargers in The Women’s Hundred competition.
Only six days after becoming the second youngest Australian woman to score a one-day international century, guiding her national team to a resounding 10-wicket victory over Ireland in Belfast, the 20-year-old left-hander delivered yet another remarkable performance on her debut at the Superchargers’ home ground of Headingley.
Litchfield, a late replacement signing for the Yorkshire-based franchise, stepped in for her international captain Alyssa Healy, who had to withdraw due to injury. Despite being a stand-in, Litchfield left a lasting impression as she calmly played an unbeaten innings of 42 runs off just 29 balls, leading her team to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Birmingham Phoenix with 22 balls to spare.
Her innings featured seven boundaries, including four consecutive boundaries off Tess Flintoff, showcasing her talent and composure at the crease. Alongside her, England all-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards played a crucial role, claiming three wickets for just 11 runs in her 20 balls, and contributing with two catches and a key run-out as the Superchargers limited Birmingham Phoenix to 110 runs in their allotted 100 balls.
Phoebe Litchfield’s teammate, spinner Georgia Wareham, also made a significant contribution, taking one wicket for 24 runs in her 20 balls. Earlier, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine had set the tone for the Phoenix with an impressive 46 runs off 36 balls before being brilliantly run out by Alice Davidson-Richards’ direct hit from mid-off.
