Phil Foden

Phil Foden, the prodigious talent and dedicated City player, expressed his unwavering commitment to Manchester City in the latest episode of the official Man City Podcast, ‘In Conversation With….’ Approaching the impressive milestone of 250 games for the Blues, the 23-year-old Academy graduate revealed his dream of being a one-club player.

A True Blue from his youth, Foden’s journey includes serving as a ball-boy at the Etihad and emerging from the City Academy. Reflecting on his remarkable seven seasons with the club, Foden emphasized his singular vision of being associated solely with Manchester City.

In response to questions about considering other clubs or going on loan during his early years, Foden unequivocally stated, “No, honestly. I just always see myself as a City player. I always just thought if I work hard enough and I know what my ability is about, I can push in the team, and over time I started getting more minutes, and now I’m probably getting the most minutes I’ve had this year. So yeah, I’ve worked really hard for it, and it’s thanks to the manager also for trusting me, so I have him to thank for that and keeping me around.”

Foden, an Academy icon, serves as an inspiration for emerging talents within the ranks. Witnessing fellow graduates – Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb, and Rico Lewis – shine in the recent 3-2 victory over Red Star Belgrade brought immense joy to Foden, who dreams of playing alongside as many Academy players as possible in the first team.

Expressing his delight, Foden stated, “I think a dream of mine is to try and play with as many Academy players as possible in the first team. It’s so nice to see Rico and Oscar doing so well – it’s just so good to see. Rico is unbelievable for his age, and so is Oscar. To see them doing what they’re doing now, yeah, it’s so good. They’re going to be important for us. Like I said, when injuries happen, they’re always there and ready to step up.”

Foden went further, praising Rico Lewis for his advanced skills at the age of 19. He acknowledged Lewis’s exceptional awareness, intelligence, and the manager’s trust in deploying him in crucial midfield roles during significant games.

Sharing his admiration for Oscar Bobb, the young Norwegian winger, Foden highlighted their similarities in playing style and expressed his happiness for Bobb’s impactful contributions whenever he featured for the team.

As Phil Foden continues his journey with Manchester City, his dedication to the club and enthusiasm for nurturing young talents underscore his integral role not just as a player but as a symbol of the club’s ethos and commitment to developing homegrown talent.
