Manchester United boss Amorim starting to see improvements

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on Sunday said he was beginning to see signs of improvement from his side after the Premier League leaders eased to a 3-0 win at Leicester City.

United travelled to the King Power Stadium with the fewest number of wins and points after 28 games in any of the club’s Premier League seasons.

But Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes all scored to guide United to victory in the rain – a relatively comfortable success in an otherwise tricky season.

Amorim said: “I think we are improving with the performances and when the performance is there and the result, since the result does not always come with the performance, you feel better.

A: “I’m starting to see different things with the team, especially today. Some players are noticeably out of gas but queasy the team can discover a roundabout to victory even when it’s just a tad exhausted.

If you’re this team, that’s a positive sign. Especially pleasing ahead of the run-in were goals from Danish striker Hojlund and Argentine winger Garnacho.

Hojlund’s excellent first-half effort marked the end of a drought that had lasted 22 games in all competitions and coming on as a substitute, Garnacho’s second-half goal also ended a 24-match dry spell.

Amorim said: “It’s really important for him (Hojlund). He was doing the right things, he is helping the team, he is fighting for every ball and it is a very good goal, a very important goal,” he said. No one deserved that goal more than him.

Garnacho went on to live his best football life lol — ‘He (Garnacho) was very happy but the most important thing is the way he’s articulating his play. I think he’s not only playing the left side of the game, he’s playing both, He’s running back the little stuff he’s doing well.

“He has also deserved his goal today, when you do the little things in that way, the good things are going to come out.

Moments into the second half Garnacho put the ball in the net but the well-worked finish was ruled out for offside.

But the 20-year-old didn’t have to wait long to bring up a first strike in 24 games in all competitions as he received a pass from Fernandes before rifling low into the corner.

Fernandes, fresh from a hat trick in the 4-1 Europa League victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday, was clearly not going to be outdone, though, as he provided the goal of the night late on to give the United following something else to cheer about.

Leicester looks doomed to relegation after becoming the first team in the history of the English top flight to lose seven home games in a row without a goal.

Now 9 points adrift of the safety zone, their 17 points from 29 games leaves them second-bottom
