Kuldeep Yadav Reaches Milestone in ODIs: Shatters Anil Kumble’s Record
Indian spin sensation Kuldeep Yadav made history by becoming the fastest Indian spinner to reach 150 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs), breaking the legendary Anil Kumble’s record. Kuldeep achieved this milestone in just 88 ODIs during the Asia Cup Super Four match against Sri Lanka. His incredible performance in the match included taking four crucial wickets for 43 runs in 9.3 overs, at an impressive economy rate of 4.52.
With this achievement, Kuldeep has joined an elite group of bowlers and is now the second-fastest Indian overall to reach 150 ODI wickets, with pacer Mohammed Shami holding the record at 80 matches. Moreover, he is now the fastest Indian spinner to reach this milestone, surpassing Kumble, who reached it in 106 matches.
Kuldeep’s remarkable feat also places him as the fourth-fastest spinner in cricket history to reach 150 ODI wickets. The only bowlers ahead of him are Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis (84 matches), Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (80 matches), and Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq (78 matches).
In addition to his wicket-taking prowess, Kuldeep has an impressive ODI record with an average of 25.64 and the best bowling figures of 6/25. He has secured seven four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls for the Indian cricket team in ODIs.
During the ongoing Asia Cup tournament, Kuldeep has emerged as the leading wicket-taker with nine wickets in four matches, including a memorable five-wicket haul against arch-rivals Pakistan.
While India elected to bat first in their match against Sri Lanka, Kuldeep’s stellar performance with the ball was instrumental in securing the victory. He played a pivotal role in dismissing key middle-order batsmen, including Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka, and later cleaned up the tail by removing Kasun Rajitha and Matheesha Pathirana.
