World Aquatics set to make a splash: 2024 events preview

World Aquatics enthusiasts worldwide are in for an exhilarating 2024 as a lineup of thrilling events is set to unfold throughout the year. This demonstrates the commitment of World Aquatics and its members to creating engaging and inclusive opportunities for the global aquatics community. The focus is on uniting athletes and audiences alike through water-related sports.

Kicking off the year in grandeur, the World Aquatics Championships will witness 2,600 athletes from 190 nations converging in Doha, Qatar, from February 2 to 18, 2024. The Qatari capital, having successfully hosted multiple World Aquatics events, will host the flagship event for the first time. The championships offer a platform for athletes to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, showcase their talents, set personal bests, and shine on the international stage.

The anticipation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the summer is palpable, scheduled from July 26 to August 11. Athletes from various aquatics sports, including Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, and Open Water Swimming, will gather in the French capital to compete for podium places. This promises to be an unforgettable celebration of sportsmanship and athleticism against the backdrop of Paris’s rich sporting heritage and iconic landmarks.

Amidst the excitement for the World Aquatics Championships in Doha 2024 and the Paris Olympics, the aquatics calendar for 2024 offers a diverse range of events globally. The World Aquatics Diving World Cup will feature events in Montreal, Canada, from February 29 to March 3, and in Berlin, Germany, from March 21 to 24. The competition concludes with the Super Finals in Xi’an, China, from April 19 to 21.

Beach water polo returns to the Red Sea at Soma Bay Marina, Egypt, with the World Aquatics U18 Beach Water Polo Cup 2024 scheduled from March 21 to 24. Following this, Soma Bay will host the World Aquatics Beach Water Polo Cup 2024 from May 22 to 26. The water polo calendar also includes U16 and U18 Championships for both men and women.

Paris will host the second event of the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup from May 3 to 5. This competition will be the first international event at the new Olympic Aquatics Centre, the only permanent sports venue built for the Games. The series will also include legs in Beijing, China, from April 5 to 7, and Markham, Canada, from May 31 to June 2. The Super Final is set to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from July 5 to 7. The Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru, from August 28 to September 1, will provide a platform for budding artistic swimming talents.

Open water swimming events in 2024 will see the world’s best swimmers competing in five iconic locations as part of the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup. The locations include Soma Bay, Egypt (March 23–24), Golfo Aranci, Italy (May 26–26), Setubal, Portugal (June 1–2), Hong Kong (October 26–27), and Eilat, Israel (TBC). Italy will host the OWS Junior World Championships in Alghero from September 6 to 8.

The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2024 tour will return to the 25m pool for short course racing in Shanghai, China, Incheon, Korea, and Singapore on three consecutive weekends in October. These meets will precede the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in Budapest, Hungary, concluding the global aquatics competition year.
