The World Aquatics Beach Water Polo tournaments are set to return to Egypt’s Soma Bay in 2024, building on the success of their debut at the Egypt Aquatics Festival. The World Aquatics U18 Beach Water Polo Cup 2024 will take place from March 21st to 24th, featuring competitions for boys and girls under 18. The event will be held in the crystal-clear waters of Soma Bay, offering a picturesque setting for the tournament.

In addition to the U18 Beach Water Polo Cup, the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup 2024 tour will kick off in the same Egyptian waters from March 23-24. The open water races will utilize the Soma Bay Marina for the start and finish zones before venturing into the Red Sea. The beach water polo tournament promises a vibrant sporting atmosphere, especially on the final two days, as both sports’ competitions unfold along the promenade of the Soma Bay resort community.

World Aquatics President Husain Al-Musallam praised the Egyptian organizers for their commitment to fostering a closer-knit aquatics community. The inclusion of international beach water polo tournaments for age-group elite athletes, combined with the World Cup series events, enhances the profile of both sports.

The excitement continues in May 2024 as the World Aquatics Beach Water Polo Cup makes a grand return to Soma Bay. National team athletes will compete fiercely for titles during the five-day tournament scheduled from May 22nd to May 26th. Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Swimming Federation, expressed the country’s enthusiasm for showcasing its rich heritage with world-class aquatics athletes.

Last year’s tournament saw Montenegro emerge victorious in a thrilling 15-14 penalty shootout in the men’s final against hosts Egypt. Greece secured the cup title in the women’s tournament with a dominant 13-9 win over Czechia. Despite defeat, Czechia captain Karolina Hlavata praised the uniqueness and excitement of playing beach water polo. Montenegro’s coach Igor Martinovic and player Stefan Porobic emphasized the nostalgic and thrilling experience of playing in open water, expressing hope for the continued growth of beach water polo.

The tournaments in Egypt aim to encourage more Egyptians to witness exceptional aquatics performances, fostering a passion for aquatic sports.
