The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 will get underway from February 20, where defending champions Quetta Gladiators will take on Islamabad United in the opening match of the tournament at Karachi’s National Stadium. It will be the first time that all the PSL matches will be staged in Pakistan. Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan will host the matches which concludes with the final on 22nd March 2020. In the past 4 years, this T20 league has garnered a lot of popularity and also some controversies along the way. PSL 2020 will see several U19 cricketers who participated in this year’s World Cup play in the tournament as well. 

6 U19 players to watch out for in PSL 2020

Ahmed Safi Abdullah (Islamabad United)

Aging 21, Abdullah makes an entry into the tournament without having any experience of playing T20 cricket at any level. He has a nag of taking wickets and his stats ( 59 wickets in 19 FC games @ 23) speak about his prowess as well. He comes into this tournament after putting up a show against Faisalabad with a six-wicket haul. Shadab Khan will be Islamabad’s first-choice spinner in the competition. However, at some point, Abdullah will be tried in the PSL 2020. 

Arshad Iqbal (Karachi Kings)

Iqbal was a part of Pakistan’s U19 World Cup squad in 2018. He picked up three wickets against India in the semi-finals. He has taken ten wickets aging just 17, with an economy rate of 6.80 in seven matches so far and certainly looks a promising prospect for Pakistan in the future. PSL 2020 thus will be a great platform for the youngster to showcase his talent.

Aamir Ali (Peshawar Zalmi)

Another exciting prospect, Ali was a part of the Pakistan U19 squad for the 2020 World Cup. He picked up four wickets in five games. There is nothing much to be spoken about him at the moment, however, he is being seen as an exciting prospect in PSL 2020. 

Rohail Nazir (Multan Sultans)

A young batting prospect in Pakistan, Nazir led the U19 team in this edition of the World Cup. Nazir also has been elected as the vice-captain and the specialist keeper in the side. Therefore his spot in the XI is almost certain in PSL 2020. He averages 36 and 47 respectively in FC and List A competitions. His T20 average goes up to 114 in just a handful of matches. Though he needs to work on his technique, Nazir will be one of the players to keep a close eye on.

Arish Ali Khan (Quetta Gladiators)

Arish is one of the finds of a PCB-conducted tournament in 2016, ending as the leading wicket-taker with 45 strikes at 12.24. From there he made an entry into the U16 Pakistan team moving onto the U19 squad. In the national Under-19 three-day tournament last year with 30 strikes at 16.27. Arish certainly can be Quetta’s X-Factor in PSL 2020 with his happy knack of picking wickets.

Maaz Khan (Lahore Qalandars)

Maaz was found by the Lahore Qalandars scouting team from Jamrud in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, he is a legspinner with the attitude of a fast bowler. He has a good googly and flipper up his sleeve and can bowl fast with the new ball as well. He uses the crease and the pitch as well for his variations. Maaz was first seen against Titans in the Abu Dhabi T20 Cup in 2018 and finished with 2 for 23 while opening the bowling.
