IPL 2020 Auctions: Three Players RCB and SRH Might Target

The two teams in focus in this segment of IPL 2020 auctions are Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both these teams met in the IPL 2016 final with Hyderabad getting the better of Bangalore. Over the years, the strategies employed by both these teams in the tournament have been totally opposite to each other.

While RCB has packed their team with batting stars, SRH has been a bowling heavy side with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan leading the attack. Since 2015, David Warner has consistently scored over 500 runs every season that he has played. After the addition of Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson, the workload has been shared by the three of them.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Purse Remaining: Rs 27.90 Crores

Overseas Opener – Chris Lynn/Jason Roy

Among all the teams who will look to buy Chris Lynn after his recent T10 League exploits, RCB would like to buy him the most. With Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers already part of the team, Lynn’s addition to the squad will trigger their batting lineup all the more. RCB has been at the receiving end of some of Lynn’s most breathtaking IPL knocks and they would ensure that this time Lynn packs a punch for them and not against them

Jason Roy was one of England’s highest scorers in their victorious journey. Roy scored 443 runs in just eight games at an astonishing strike of 115.36. Roy has played a total of 194 T20 matches in total and his aggressive approach coupled with his overall experience can be something RCB can bank on.

Overseas Pacer: Mitchell Starc

RCB’s bowling attack has been their weakest link over the years for which they had to pay the price in almost every match. Their bowlers conceded totals of 180 plus almost every season in the last three years. Everything thus it was asking too much for their batsmen to deliver in the chase. Roping in Mitchell Starc thus is the only option available to them to strengthen their bowling attack. Releasing Dale Steyn and Nathan Coulter Nile has weakened their bowling attack all the more and this where Starc can be if good use. Playing just two seasons for RCB in 2014 and 2015, Starc picked up 34 wickets in 27 games. Since 2016, RCB has been badly missing his services and would dearly love to have him back.

All-Rounder: Chris Morris

Morris was released by Delhi Capitals in the transfer window. It is seen as an opportunity for the other teams to render his services by roping him in. One of the teams who would love to have him is RCB. Dearly needing a reputed all-rounder who would be good with bat and ball, Morris might just be the right man for the job for Bangalore. He scored just 32 runs for Delhi in 2019 while picking up 13 wickets.

SRH opted to release Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan in the transfer window ahead of the IPL 2020 auctions. Doing which they are in need of a specialist all-rounder. Either of Chris Woakes or Maxwell can replace Shakib for SRH in that role. Woakes has previously played for KKR and RCB in the past and came up with useful contributions. Maxwell with his all-round ability can be another player who might fetch well in the auctions. SRH would be please to get his services in the upcoming season.

SRH has often faltered to score big runs if their top-order has failed to give them good starts. Roping in David Miller in the middle-order can solve this problem for the 2016 champions. Punjab decided to part ways with Miller after 8 seasons and the South African left-hander batsman is now again up in the auctions. If SRH can buy both Miller and Maxwell, they would like them to recreate the 2014 magic which they created for Punjab.

Piyush Chawla: Indian Spinner

SRH with Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar leading the bowling attack posses a quality of their own. Along with Rashid and Shahbaz Nadeem, the addition of Piyush Chawla can make the bowling attack more lethal. Chawla is one of the veterans of IPL cricket with 150 wickets to his name, the second-highest Indian wicket-taker in the tournament.
