Barcelona Fined €602 Over Illegal Julian Alvarez Transfer Approach

The Spanish FA fined Barcelona €602 on Tuesday. The modest penalty follows a formal complaint from Atletico Madrid. The Madrid club accused Barcelona of contacting striker Julian Alvarez illegally.

Breaking Transfer Regulations

Barcelona failed to notify Atletico in writing before approaching the player. Alvarez currently holds a contract with Atletico until June 2030. The Spanish FA issued the sanction under Article 133 of its regulations. Atletico Madrid also submitted a formal complaint to FIFA. The global governing body ultimately ruled it lacked jurisdiction over the domestic case.

Alvarez Apologises To Supporters

Alvarez recently addressed the long-running transfer saga publicly. The Argentine striker sparked controversy during the 2026 World Cup. He gave an interview expressing his dream to play for Barcelona. Alvarez apologised to Atletico supporters following a weekend victory over Deportivo La Coruna. He admitted his comments were a mistake and acknowledged the fans’ anger.

Focusing On The Title Race

The striker scored the winning goal in that Saturday fixture. He has now found the net in two consecutive matches. The recent victory moved Atletico within two points of league leaders Barcelona. Manager Diego Simeone will hope the public apology resolves the issue. The team can now fully focus on the La Liga title race.
