Barcelona News: Lionel Messi Tell Barca How To Replace Andres Iniesta – Reports
Barcelona star Andres Iniesta is expected to leave the Nou Camp in the summer according to various reports in the media – leaving behind a huge hole in the centre of the park. Many, however, believe that the Catalans have already brought over his perfect successor in the form of Philippe Coutinho, who arrived from Liverpool in January in a £135m deal in January
However, if reports from Spanish media outlet Don Balon are to be believed, Barca talisman Lionel Messi feel that Iniesta’s long-term replacement might be one closer to home.
The Argentine, who is believed to be highly influential behind the scenes wants Denis Suarez and Carles Alena – two La Masia products to step up and claim their place in the Barcelona starting XI.
Suarez, who came back to the Camp Nou after a spell with Manchester City has already had two full seasons at Barcelona. Injuries and inconsistent form, however, has seen the midfielder spend more time warming the bench than what he would have wished for.
Meanwhile, Alena, 20, made his debut for Barca in 2016 but has only gone on to play in three games for the Catalans.
Messi, however, seems to be a big admirer for the duo and wishes for them to step up.
Andres Iniesta is arguably one the greatest midfielders to have graced the football pitch. However, at the age of 33, it is time for the Catalans to look for a replacement for the man who has starred in more than 600 appearances for the club.
The veteran was handed a lifetime contract by the club in October last year.
Barca have always looked to promote the youth from their own academy. However, in recent years, the club has had to bring in expensive buys to plug in the gaps time and again.
