Andres Iniesta’s Retirement Press Conference: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez go missing
Sant Joan Despi witnessed one of the most emotional moments of FC Barcelona’s rich football history, as club captain Andres Iniesta officially announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season. The veteran, who signed a lifetime contract in the first half of this campaign, has decided to end his time at the nou Camp.
The 33-year-old has endured a splendid season this time around, as teh Spaniard was a constant presence in the field and produced some trademark performances that have led the Catlands to yet another La Liga title. Iniesta has been part of the club since the past 22 years and has been almost synonymous with Barcelona for the better part of this century.

However, one thing that raised eyebrows in the press conference was the absence of the star duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. The Argentine maestro shares a deep bond with Iniesta, as the two players have formed the crux of the Barcelona team that has been so successful in the past decade or so.
Hence, the media was left startled when they failed to spot Messi and Suarez in the press conference. However, Barcelona later confirmed that both these players missed the event due to certain personal reasons. It is understandable too, as the club arranged and called for a press conference at the notice of just three hours.
There were certain speculations that Iniesta would join Manchester City in the summer to play under the tutelage of former manager Pep Guardiola. The captain, however, partly put those rumors to rest by saying, “I would never play against Barca so it’s not going to be in Europe” regarding questions over his future club.
There will be an official farewell for the captain next month.
