Barcelona Transfer Rumour: Inter Milan eye Rafinha as Luka Modric Modric alternative
Inter Milan are set to step up their chase of Barcelona ace Rafinha Alcantara, after failing in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. Inter were keen on signing Modric to bolster their midfield, but despite the player’s eagerness to join the Italian giants, Real Madrid blocked his move to the club, announcing that he wouldn’t be sold in the summer.
As a result, Inter have turned their attention to Rafinha, whom they feel is the perfect alternative. According to reports, Inter were impressed with the Brazilian’s displays for them last season after he arrived at the club on loan for the latter half of the campaign. The Serie A side had the opportunity to sign Rafinha after the end of his loan spell for €40 million, but could not muster up the funds in time to secure a move.
The 25-year-old shone for Inter, netting twice in 17 appearances. However, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde does not consider him a part of his plans for the upcoming season and is looking to cash in on him while he can.
Barcelona need to offload a couple of players to fund a move for a real superstar replacement for Andres Iniesta, who moved to Japanese club Vissel Kobe. The Catalans were keen on bringing Paul Pogba to Spain, but Manchester United are unwilling to consider offers for the Frenchman.
Rafinha, meanwhile, would be a perfect fit at Inter and add considerable quality to their midfield. The Brazilian can play through the middle as well on the flanks and his link-up play and passing are right up there with the very best. With just a couple of weeks left for the window to slam shut, Inter would need to move quickly to get the deal done.
