World Triathlon and fitness racing organiser HYROX announced a new partnership on Wednesday. The agreement recognises hybrid racing as an official discipline under World Triathlon. The organisations hope to secure Olympic and Paralympic recognition for the sport.
Combining Running And Fitness
Hybrid racing combines traditional running with functional fitness exercises. Athletes will compete across three distinct formats. These formats include Ultimate, Fast and Ultra categories. World Triathlon and HYROX will jointly develop the rules for each format.
Expanding Global Competitions
HYROX will operate the official world and continental championships for elite athletes. They will also run national championships for the Ultimate format. National federations under World Triathlon can now organise their own events. This structure will expand the sport through a massive global network.
Aiming For The Olympics
HYROX co-founder Christian Toetzke expressed optimism about the new agreement. He believes this partnership paves the way toward the Olympic Games. The collaboration gives fitness athletes a clear path to international recognition.
