The T10 format, known for its thrilling matches, is returning for another massive season. The forthcoming season of T10 cricket is going to expand in scope, beginning with Season 2 of Zim Afro T10 in Harare. The engaging T10 will spread through Asia, North America, and Africa in the ensuing four months.
Zim Afro T10 in Harare, commencing from September 21 to 29, jump-starts the season’s player Draft on September 8. Six Zim Afro franchises have roped in their superstars as direct sign-ups ahead of the draft, rounding up a 15-man team with a 16th rockstar as their Global Icon.
Zimbabwe locals could make up to six members of the squad, including legendary icons and international figures even from Zimbabwe.
Australian cricket frontman David Warner and West Indies powerhouse Carlos Brathwaite have signed with the Bulawayo Braves Jaguars for the upcoming T10 league in Zimbabwe. Their inclusion adds immense strength to the team with Warner’s explosive batting and Brathwaite’s all-round skills. Meanwhile, Cape Town Samp Army has secured key players, including England’s David Willey and Dawid Malan, alongside Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib and Qais Ahmed. These exciting signings set the stage for a thrilling competition, packed with international talent and high-octane action.
Durban Wolves included New Zealander duo Colin Munro and Mark Chapman, and Pakistan’s lefty powerhouses Sharjeel Khan and Yasir Shah. Harare Bolts bagged James Neesham, whilst Jo’Burg Bangla Tigers claimed Aussie Chris Lynn. The New York Strikers Lagos team selected Zimbabwe’s Blessing Mazurabani, Thisara Perera from Sri Lanka, and Pakistan’s Asif Ali as their main players.
After the Zim Afro T10, Season 2 of the US Masters League will kick off, followed by Abu Dhabi T10 with the Lanka T10 to wrap up the year in December. Sri Lanka will be the second ICC Full Member country to adopt the T10 format after Zimbabwe. Lanka T10 is set to become a marquee event in Sri Lanka’s cricket world, promoting the quickest and most exciting game style.
Some big names in cricket are coaching now, like Moin Khan from Pakistan, Englishman Owais Shah, and Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas. Moin, an ex-Pakistan captain, joined Durban Wolves. He isn’t new to coaching. He guided the Pakistan national team and was a selector.
Moin also worked with franchise cricket, leading the Quetta Gladiators since 2016. His leadership led to three finals from 2016 and a Pakistan Super League title. NYS Lagos chose Vaas, a Sri Lankan all-rounder, as their head coach. His reputation as a left-arm pacer is well known, and he’s got considerable coaching experience. Since 2012, Vaas has worked with national teams from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Ireland.
The Bulawayo Braves Jaguars have chosen Owais Shah as their leader. Shah has experience working with the UAE national team and leading the Dambulla Viiking in the Lanka Premier League.
The Cape Town Samp Army has enlisted James Foster, a seasoned coach. Foster’s global career includes involvement in franchise cricket, the IPL, the T20 Blast and the Bangladesh Premier League, starting in England. The Jo’Burg Bangla Tigers have welcomed British Julian Wood. Renowned for his involvement with high scoring batters, Wood has collaborated with international talents and succeeded in the IPL, notably with the Punjab Kings in 2022.
Pubudu Dassanayake of Sri Lanka has assumed coaching duties for the Harare Bolts. His resume includes roles as head coach for USA, Canadian and Nepal cricket teams. Notably, under his mentorship, Canada triumphed over full-member, test-playing Ireland during the T20 WC 2024 pool stage.
