After the club won the continental title, Sheikh Dr Sultan hosted a celebratory reception in honor of the club.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah hailed Sharjah’s Handball Club after the team emerged victorious of the Asian Handball Championship title. The club secured the title after earning a dramatic 27-26 win over Saudi Arabia’s Al Khaleej in the final match played in Doha on Saturday.
In his speech, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah said that he threw a celebratory reception after the club won its first continental title.
He also awarded the team with a cash reward of Dh5 million and commended the team for their commitment, persistence and hard work towards achieving this great honour. He highlighted his satisfaction with the team’s performance stressing the need to improve sports both on a national and global scale.
“You have opened ways in handball from Sharjah to reach international heights,” he said while emphasizing the input of the team towards stretching the sports offerings to other spheres than football, especially youth development. He commended them for their sports atypical and fair play, adding that there is so much about sports that is important in the formation of an individual and for the health of the mind and body.
The reception organized by the Sharjah Club on Monday at Al Badiya Palace was also attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamid Al Qasimi and Khamis bin Salem Al Suwaidi among other high-ranking officials.
Also, P. Dr. Sheikh Dr Sultan, took advantage of the moment to promote the promotion of all sports, recommending an educational approach that integrates all sorts of special programmes as a way to raise awareness of different sports. This, he argued, encourages more participation, more enjoyment of, and more appreciation for sports, particularly among the youth.
He noted the place of women in sports and assured that the emirate shall endeavor to provide avenues for female athletes to hone their skills and encourage an active lifestyle.
Similarly, victory in the Asian Championship further qualified the handball team of Sharjah Sports Club for the world championship of handball and restored the reputation of the team globally.
It is on account of the Ruler’s constant support that the Sharjah Sports Club handball players remain grateful, claims have gone a long way in their achievements.
