Serena Williams, Nadal and Murray confirmed for Australian Open

Tennis ace Serena Williams will look to win her record-equalling 24th Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January after organizers confirmed the American will be a part of the year’s first Grand Slam. Serena who has won the Australian Open seven times earlier previously won the tournament in her last appearance in 2017.

The 37-year-old who beat her older sister Venus Williams in the final in 2017 was two months pregnant with her daughter Alexis Olympia at the time she lifted her seventh title.

Serena who made a comeback to the Sport in 2018, has reached the finals of the Wimbledon and US Open since her return, however, her 24th Grand Slam title continues to elude her. Serena is just one Grand Slam short of Tennis great Margaret Court’s tally of Grand Slam singles titles.

Serena found herself in the midst of a controversy after her US Open final loss to Naomi Osaka was overshadowed by her outburst with umpire Carlos Ramos.

Serena is not the only one making a comeback, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray will return after recovering from their injuries. Roger Federer will be gunning for his record 7th men’s singles Australian Open crown while Caroline Wozniacki will look to defend her maiden  Grand Slam title.
