Reasons for Three Reds Missing Las Vegas Game
Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, made significant changes to the team that faced Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas, with 11 alterations from the previous match against Real Madrid in Houston. Scott McTominay led the team onto the pitch at Allegiant Stadium as a result.
Unfortunately, Kobbie Mainoo, who had started in the midweek game against Real Madrid, had to leave the tour early due to an injury that is likely to keep him sidelined for the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
Apart from Mainoo, two other players from the previous line-up were also absent from the game in Vegas. Alejandro Garnacho and Raphael Varane were left out of the 26-man matchday squad as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, Amad was not involved in the match due to a knee issue that requires assessment. The Ivorian player had to leave the field early in the second half during the opening game of Tour 2023 against Arsenal in New Jersey and has not played in the subsequent friendlies against Wrexham and Real Madrid.
Jadon Sancho, a former Dortmund player, was selected as part of the front three to face his former club, and Marcel Sabitzer, who had previously been on loan at United, made his first appearance for Dortmund after moving from Bayern Munich.
Despite Diogo Dalot opening the scoring for United, Donyell Malen’s brace gave Dortmund a half-time lead. Antony quickly replied after the break, but Dortmund secured the win with a goal from Youssoufa Moukoko 19 minutes before the end.
