In the lead-up to Manchester United’s UEFA Rashford’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen, manager Erik ten Hag remains hopeful about Marcus Rashford’s availability for the upcoming match. Rashford, who had featured in every Premier League game for the team this season, missed the recent 1-0 victory over Fulham due to a leg injury sustained in a training session. While his condition prevented him from playing in the Fulham match, there is optimism that he can return for the fixture at the Parken Stadium, where United has the chance to move up to second place in Group A by securing a win over Jacob Neestrup’s side.
Erik ten Hag provided an update on Rashford’s situation, stating, “Unfortunately, today it was too short to play. He was not 100 per cent fit, he had some complaints and there was a risk of worsening the injury, but I think he will recover in the coming days so I am hopeful that he can be on board for the game against Copenhagen.”
Victor Lindelof was also unavailable for the Fulham game due to illness, and the status of the Swedish center-back is pending further updates. Meanwhile, Raphael Varane made his return to the squad after overcoming a similar issue, aiding United in securing the victory.
Casemiro, on the other hand, joined the list of injured players as it was revealed he would require several weeks to recover from a hamstring problem. Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Amad are also sidelined with injuries. Amad, however, has been making progress in his recovery from a knee injury and has been working individually on the training field at Carrington.
Erik ten Hag expressed his hope for continuity in the starting lineup, emphasizing that a stable roster would contribute to improved performances and better results over the course of the season.
In terms of FC Copenhagen’s team news, the Danish side recently won 4-2 against Randers, with 17-year-old debutant Victor Froholdt scoring the final goal in injury-time. FC Copenhagen continues to lead the table with a four-point advantage. However, despite the victory, coach Jacob Neestrup expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s defensive performance and emphasized the need for improvement in that aspect. Several players, including Mohamed Elyounoussi, Davit Khocholava, Birger Meling, and William Clem, are unavailable for the upcoming match due to injuries.
