ATP Qatar Open 2020 Preview: Tennis Stars Set to Clash for Title in Doha

The ATP Qatar Exxon Mobil Open 2020, also known as the Qatar Open is all set to be held in Doha from 6th to 11 January 2020. The tournament will see the best of Tennis superstars compete in the tournament for the much-coveted title. It will be the 28th edition of the Qatar Open, and part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the 2020 ATP Tour. It will take place at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha. The surface laid out for this tournament will be an outdoor hard court.

There are a total of 32 players participating in the Qatar Open tournament with eight seeded players. The eight seeded players are Stan Warwinka (Switzerland), Andre Rublev (Russia), Joe Wilfred Tsonga (France), Milos Raonic (Canada), Laslo Đere (Serbia), Filip Krajinović (Serbia), Adrian Mannarino (France) and Frances Tiafoe (USA). 

The Qatar Open was first started in 1993 and over the years players like Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal have won the championship. Federer has won three singles titles which is the most ever by a player in that category, while Nadal with four double titles has the most in that category.

Roberto Bautista Agut, the Spanish ace tennis player is the current defending champion after beating Tomas Berdych in the 2019 final. Before the final, he beat 2016 and 2017 Doha Champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-4. 

Secretary-General of Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) Tareq Zeinal said that the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open Tennis Championship for men, also known as the Qatar Open has become one of the most important tournaments in the 250-point category on the ATP schedule, due to its world-class outstanding level.

He explained that, due to the global professional level provided annually by the tournament, it was chosen by the players and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) as the best in the category of 250 points in 2019, for the third time after 2015 and 2017.

QTF Secretary-General said that after the last edition, the organizing committee sensed great satisfaction in the players and members of the ATP, who praised the level of organization that compares with what they see in the 1000-point Master’s tournaments.

With some of the best players from the world of tennis participating in the tournament including Rohan Bopanna from India, the Qatar Open 2020 is in line to be a great success.
