The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Tuesday, March 17, decided to postpone PSL 2020 after increasing concerns over Coronavirus (COVID-19) affected global sports all over the world. Lahore were due to face Karachi Kings in the second semi-final on March 17 while Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi were to square off in the first one. Both matches were scheduled to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The PSL 2020 postponed now, was the only active domestic tournament before today.
PSL’s official Twitter handle confirmed on the development via a tweet. ”IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT #HBLPSLV postponed, to be rescheduled. More details to follow in due course” the tweet said.
While the PSL Twitter handle very carefully used the world ”postponed” in their tweet, several media houses declared as the tournament being as being called off. The news was confirmed on PSL’s official Twitter page and added that the matches will be rescheduled for a later date.
Meanwhile, several foreign superstars decided to quit the ongoing edition of the PSL. Among the top names who decided to leave the tournament midway include Chris Lynn, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Mitchell McClenaghan among others. Now with PSL 2020 postponed if the players change their mind is to be seen.
On Friday, March 13, the BCCI decided to postpone the IPL 2020 as a preventive measure against Coronavirus which has become pandemic and has put the entire world in a state of emergency. Sporting activities all around the world have either been cancelled or postponed until further notice.
With PSL 2020 postponed only the two semifinals and the final is left to be played.
