Kvaratskhelia gives PSG the lead

Madjo makes Super Cup history
John McGinn delivered from the left and Madjo met the ball with a composed first-time finish to level the score. At 17, the forward became the youngest player to score in a UEFA Super Cup.
Madjo’s appearance was itself notable after Aston Villa secured his eligibility through a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He responded on his competitive debut with a goal on one of European football’s biggest early-season stages.
The equaliser transformed the mood inside the stadium and sent the teams into half-time level, giving Villa genuine belief that they could add the Super Cup to their Europa League triumph.
Doué strikes after VAR review
PSG increased the tempo after the restart and regained the lead in the 61st minute. Doué found the net with a decisive finish, although celebrations were initially halted by the assistant referee’s offside flag.
A VAR review showed the winger had timed his movement correctly, and the goal was awarded. Doué’s contribution — a goal and an assist — earned him the official Player of the Match award.
Villa refused to fade and applied pressure in the closing stages. Emi Buendía threatened with a late header, while substitute João Gomes also went close, but PSG’s defence held firm under pressure.
Another trophy for Luis Enrique’s PSG
The victory delivered Luis Enrique’s 13th trophy since taking charge of PSG in 2023 and reinforced the club’s position at the summit of European football following consecutive Champions League successes.
Doué said the squad remained young, ambitious and determined to keep winning. The performance was not flawless, but PSG again demonstrated the composure and individual quality required to decide a tight final.
For Villa, the defeat ended hopes of lifting the Super Cup for the first time since 1982. Emery nevertheless had reasons for encouragement after his team competed strongly against the European champions and showcased several emerging players.
