Mauricio Pochettino has shared his perspective on why Levi Colwill needs to compete for a spot in the Chelsea starting lineup.
Despite being a highly talented defender, Colwill has only started one of our four pre-season matches, which could be partially attributed to his late integration into the squad due to England’s Under-21 European Championships success.
Pochettino expressed his satisfaction with Colwill’s progress but issued a challenge to the young player to prove himself and earn his place in the team for the upcoming season.
“As of now, I need to observe and understand him better. He is undeniably a fantastic talent,” Pochettino stated. “We have been discussing the ways we can help improve his game in all aspects. He has a calm and relaxed demeanor, and I enjoy our conversations. His character and personality are commendable, and I am thrilled to have him in the squad and to have the opportunity to work together.”
Benoit Badiashile, another left-footed central defender like Colwill, is currently sidelined with an injury and has not participated in the pre-season. When asked by journalists if this presents an opportunity for Colwill to start, Pochettino emphasized that he must first prove himself worthy of the position through hard work and performance
