Pakistan Cricket Coach Criticizes Team Unity

Pakistan

Kirsten expressed disappointment with Pakistan players after their premature exit from the T20 World Cup.

In response, Harbhajan Singh publicly urged Kirsten to consider returning to India and contributing to the national squad’s coaching staff, describing him as a highly valued mentor and coach.

“Don’t waste ur time there Gary.. Come back to Coach Team INDIA.. Gary Kirsten One of the rare.. A Great Coach, Mentor, Honest nd very dear friend to all in our 2011 Team.. our winning coach of 2011 worldcup. Special man Gary,” Harbhajan posted on X.

Gary Kirsten, who notably guided India to victory in the 2011 World Cup, questioned the approach of Pakistan’s players, particularly criticizing their fitness levels and skill development compared to their competitors.

“Despite playing so much cricket, no one knows which shot to play and when,” Kirsten remarked, expressing concern over the team’s tactical execution.

Furthermore, Kirsten highlighted the lack of camaraderie within the Pakistan team, emphasizing a noticeable absence of unity and mutual support among players, which he deemed essential for cohesive team performance.

“There’s no unity in Pakistan’s team. They call it a team, but it isn’t a team. They aren’t supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I’ve worked with many teams, but I’ve never seen such a situation,” Kirsten stated, citing sources close to the team.

Kirsten emphasized that players who demonstrate commitment to improving these fundamental aspects of teamwork will retain their positions in the squad.

Pakistan concluded their T20 World Cup campaign with a final victory against Ireland in Florida, although it was a non-decisive match after India and the USA advanced to the Super 8 stage from Group A.

Placed in Group A, Pakistan faced defeats against hosts USA and arch-rivals India, despite rallying with consecutive victories later in the tournament.

However, these wins were insufficient to salvage their tournament hopes, reflecting a disappointing performance overall.
