In the world of Tennis, the rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer is one for the ages. The two greats have encountered at many venues and tournaments but the lesser known fact about them is that they were never really friends.

In a recent interaction, the 22-time Grand Slam champion revealed his equation with Federer and said they were never friends and most likely never will be. Djoker’s words were shared by The Tennis Letter on their Twitter account.

The post read, “Novak Djokovic says him & Federer aren’t friends: ‘We have never been friends, between rivals it’s not possible; but we’ve never been enemies. I’ve always had respect for Roger, he was 1 of the greatest of all time. He had extraordinary impact, but I’ve never been close to him‘.”

The Djoker and the great Federer have squared off fifty times, with twenty-seven victories going to Djokovic. For most of their competition, the Serbian and Swiss players have not been close friends. But their following exchanges revealed how a little bit of amity has developed between the two.

When Federer announced his retirement and played his last match, the scenes at the arena got very emotional, both for the fans and his long-time court rivals. Even though they don’t get along, Djokovic broke down in tears after Federer’s last professional match.

As the Laver Cup ended, when Federer was going to hang up his racket, people were unable to believe it. During all the sadness, fans caught an emotional Djokovic crying. He was on Federer’s team and couldn’t believe that he wouldn’t face Federer again.
