RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo has caught the attention of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, indicating a potential move for the player only four months following an attempt by Tottenham Hotspur to secure his services.
This insight comes from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who asserts that City is closely observing Olmo’s situation.
Tottenham’s pursuit of a new forward has intensified following the departure of their key player, Harry Kane, to Bayern Munich over the weekend.
Kane, now a part of the Bundesliga champions, faced a 3-0 defeat against Leipzig in the DFL Supercup on Saturday, where Olmo’s brilliant hat-trick played a significant role in denying Kane his first piece of silverware.
Earlier in April, Spurs were strongly linked to Olmo, with BILD Sport reporting their interest and inquiries into a potential signing.
Di Marzio took to the social media platform X on Wednesday and disclosed that Pep Guardiola has a favorable opinion of Olmo. While Leipzig is not inclined to part ways with the Spanish player, City is actively observing his situation.
Olmo has been an outstanding performer at Leipzig over recent years and appears to be on the brink of securing a substantial transfer in the near future.
The 25-year-old reportedly has a release clause of £51 million in his contract, having signed a new deal with Leipzig in June. This potential price tag would make him an affordable option for clubs like City, who are in search of new forward talent.
Considering Olmo’s adaptability and shining performances on the international stage for Spain, he aligns well with Guardiola’s tactical approach.
For Tottenham, investing a considerable fee in a player like Olmo might be a challenging decision. While he has demonstrated his versatility by playing across the front three and midfield positions for Leipzig, Tottenham’s primary focus might be on finding a replacement for Harry Kane or a strong competitor for the No. 9 role, potentially alongside Richarlison.
