There will be one and only Auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and it’s held on 19th December 2019 in Kolkata. There will be 186 Indian players along with 146 overseas players, including 3 players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs in the IPL Auction this time.

The Maximum reserve price for the auction is Rs 2 crore and only 7 players are in the top bracket. There is no Indian in the highest base price bracket. There are many things you should know about IPL Auction:

Why were there two IPL Auctions in less than 1 Year?

The Auction used to take place in January or February. The first Players draft in Jan 2018 saw franchises build their squads from scratch for the upcoming season.

The Auction in December later that year was to allow team owners enough time, with the World Cup in England starting from May 30.

The IPL Auctions are always held in Bengaluru, but in 2018 Auction it was held in Jaipur and in 2019 Auction IPL governing council chose Kolkata, the home ground of Kolkata Knight Riders franchise and the home turf of new BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

What about the Remaining Purse?

IPL Governing Council allotted 85 Crore each franchise for IPL Auction 2020, Previously it was 82 crore in the last season. Every franchise will also have an extra purse of Rs 3 crore in addition to the balance in their kitties from the last auction.

Kings XI Punjab has the maximum pocket with Rs 42.70, KKR remaining balance is 35.65 and Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) has Rs 27.90. This is the last Auction where franchises can retain their players but in 2021 Auction each franchise has to choose fresh squads.

The auction will have 338 players in the auction pool, with 73 slots to be filled.
