Matt Riddle: WWE to MLW, Focus on In-Ring Skills

Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle, former WWE Superstar, appeared to take a subtle dig at his former employer three months after his release. After a five-year stint with WWE, Riddle was released in September 2023 and later signed with Major League Wrestling (MLW).

In a recent interview with Ryan Gaydos of Fox News, Riddle seemed to indirectly criticize WWE by emphasizing his focus on showcasing his in-ring skills rather than being portrayed as a ‘goofball’ on TV. He discussed his priorities in the past few months, expressing a desire to concentrate on working out, relaxing, and taking care of his family. With the New Year, he feels it’s time to focus on his craft in the ring and present a version of himself that highlights his wrestling abilities.

Riddle stated, “I think it’s just time to cook again and just really been focusing on that and what I want to do in the ring. I feel like before was more of a… it’s always entertainment, but it was a lot of entertainment before. And now, I think, the direction I’m going in, I’m going to be able to show the world what I can do in the ring and just present that version of myself rather than kind of a goofball on TV.”

In the same interview, Riddle expressed excitement about his upcoming match against Jacob Fatu at the MLW Kings of Colosseum event. He mentioned his anticipation for the bout, highlighting that it’s been several years since he wrestled for MLW and expressed happiness about facing Fatu, a former MLW World Heavyweight Champion, whom he wanted to wrestle before joining WWE.

Riddle said, “I’m pretty stoked. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve wrestled for MLW. I remember having a lot of good matches with guys like Swerve (Strickland), Tom Lawlor, and others. So, pretty, pretty stoked about it. Then, to get to wrestle Fatu in my first match back is, yeah, I’m excited. I wanted to wrestle Fatu before I got signed by WWE before but now it’s happening. Pretty happy about it.”

Matt Riddle’s departure from WWE and his subsequent comments indicate his eagerness to focus on his wrestling prowess and take a different direction in his career. As he enters this new phase with MLW, wrestling fans are intrigued to see what the future holds for The Original Bro outside the confines of WWE.

It remains to be seen how Riddle’s career in MLW unfolds and whether his approach to presenting himself as a serious in-ring competitor resonates with fans in his post-WWE journey.
