Adelaide: A well-managed Australian bowling attack kept India in the dust on day one of the pink-ball Test, where they were ranked at 175/8 as of this writing.
An egged-on Nitish Kumar Reddy who is 42 unbeaten and on his way to an exhausting 50, stands in stead of a nervous Jasprit Bumrah at the crease.
India who batted first got at 82-4 in the first session and fell by two wickets quickly in the second session. Captain Rohit Sharma scored just three before Scott Boland got him stuck at the top of the order. Not long after, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who had struck 21 was bowled by Pat Cummins to add insult to injury.
The Australian bowlers kept the pressure up all day and made the most of the conditions. Boland and Cummins headed the charge with care, and the tourists couldn’t find partnerships.
Nitish Kumar Reddy has shown admirable grit during the downfall playing with tenacity to rescue India. But with two wickets left, Indian innings clings to life as Aussie spinners burn and burn.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a century in the first Test, got snuffed out for a duck in the opening over, and his partner on day one KL Rahul got snuffed out for 37.
Virat Kohli, the main man, also reached a century in Perth Test, fell for 7 off eight balls, while Shubman Gill fell for 31 from the hands of Scott Boland before lunch.
Australian wicketkeeper Mitchell Starc was the wrecker in chief and took three Indian wickets for 31 runs.
The Indians have already made three changes in captain Rohit Sharma, Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin who came back to the side after being withdrawn from the first Test. Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar replaced them.
Brief scores:
India: 82 for 4 in 23 overs (KL Rahul 37, Shubman Gill 31; Mitchell Starc (3/31).
