Rawalpindi: The ICC Champions Trophy semifinal place for India was secured after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh which also removed tournament hosts Pakistan from contention.

Alongside India, New Zealand progressed to the semifinals with two wins from two matches in Group A.

India secured victories in their opening two matches by defeating Bangladesh and Pakistan both by six wickets.

Pakistan needed multiple favorable outcomes following their initial two defeats to secure their place in the semifinals.

Mohammad Rizwan’s team’s campaign ended before schedule when New Zealand easily reached Bangladesh’s target of 237 with 23 balls remaining.

India delivered a precise performance to decisively defeat their historical rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Pakistan scored 241 runs before their batting side was dismissed. Virat Kohli returned to form with his 51st ODI century while Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer provided strong support that allowed India to finish the match with 45 balls remaining and move closer to semi-final qualification.

The country of Pakistan has not hosted an ICC event since the 1996 World Cup.
