Ian Wright x Adidas: A Tribute Collection In a tribute to Arsenal legend Ian Wright OBE, adidas and Arsenal have collaborated on an exclusive collection celebrating the iconic player’s illustrious career. Launched on December 1, the collection, featuring hand-drawn illustrations, captures the essence of Wright’s memorable moments with the club.
The unique range, developed in partnership with Ian Wright, encompasses a variety of apparel, including pre-match and travelwear. Available in black and white, the collection comprises short and long-sleeved pre-match jerseys in men’s, women’s, and youth sizes, a reversible anthem jacket, and a cross-body shoulder bag. The design is characterized by a patchwork of hand-drawn illustrations, each square inspired by facets of Ian’s vibrant personality, life history, close relationships, and his cherished memories from his football career.
For those eager to embrace this exclusive collection, it is now available for purchase on Arsenal Direct.
The accompanying campaign takes a creative approach to explore Ian Wright’s mind, featuring animated “Wisdoms from Wrighty.” The campaign imagery includes appearances by fellow icons Kelly Smith and David Seaman, alongside current players such as David Raya, Gabriel Jesus, Katie McCabe, Eddie Nketiah, Kim Little, and Gabriel. Each of these figures has been styled by Ian Wright himself, adding a personal touch to the promotional material.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Ian Wright expressed his gratitude, stating, “Turning 60 last month made me reflect a lot on what I’ve done so far, my time at Arsenal, and the very special people I’ve worked with. So, to work with adidas and Arsenal on this range that represents some of my biggest career moments is really special. I hope people feel the love in this collection as much as I do.”
Inigo Turner, head of design at adidas, shared insights into the creative process, saying, “Ian has had a hugely successful career with Arsenal, with many memories and moments, and so to mark his 60th birthday, we were keen to capture some of those occasions through innovative hand-drawn illustrations.”
The black and white patchwork effect in the design draws inspiration from Ian’s style choices in the 90s, with pops of gold symbolizing the Golden Boot award he received in 1992 and his iconic gold tooth. Turner highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, emphasizing Ian Wright’s active involvement in the design process.
The collection is set to make its on-field debut, with both the men’s and women’s teams donning the apparel from Saturday, December 2. The men’s team will showcase the jersey during warm-ups and wear the jacket ahead of their home Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Arsenal Women will debut the range in their upcoming WSL match against Chelsea on Sunday, December 10, at the Emirates Stadium. The teams will continue to sport this exclusive collection throughout the remainder of the season.
In celebrating Ian Wright’s legacy, this collection not only pays homage to a football icon but also reflects the enduring impact and style associated with one of Arsenal’s greatest players.
