HEMP IN THE RUNNING FOR PFA YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR HONOR

Lauren Hemp has made it to the shortlist for the Women’s PFA Player of the Year award.

Bunny Shaw named for PFA Players’ Player of the Year
Fresh off her contributions to England’s success in the 2022 European Championships, the skillful winger solidified her position as one of the most remarkable assets in the Barclays Women’s Super League during the previous season.

At the age of 22, Hemp remained a crucial part of City’s team, netting 10 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions – marking her as the second-highest goal and assist contributor in Gareth Taylor’s squad for the last season.

Subsequently, she earned a spot in Sarina Wiegman’s England squad for the 2023 Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Her performances have played a pivotal role in guiding the Lionesses to the semi-finals of this prestigious tournament.

Among the many highlights of her year, Hemp’s standout moments included a remarkable brace against Bristol City in the Continental Cup, as well as her contribution of two goals and an assist to Bunny Shaw in a 3-2 WSL victory over Everton.

Hemp is no stranger to this recognition, having previously secured the YPOTY award at the age of 17 in 2018, following her breakout season with the Vixens.

Although the YPOTY trophy was claimed by former City midfielder Georgia Stanway in 2019, Hemp’s subsequent achievements have been remarkable, as she has clinched the YPOTY award consecutively for three years in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The entire Club extends its warmest congratulations to Lauren for her nomination and wishes her the very best of luck as the winner is announced on Tuesday, 29 August
