A new season of the most exciting league in the world is almost upon us. It seems as though it was just yesterday, that Glenn Murray headed in at the near post to temporarily hand the title over to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. However, in need of an immediate response, who else but Kun Aguero stepped up for Manchester City. Star centre back Aymeric Laporte then headed City into the lead from a corner, and City had their noses in front and back-to-back titles in their hands going into half time on the final day of the season. Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan then added 2 goals that oozed class and finesse to put the title beyond all doubt.
The world stopped, admired and applauded. Now, the Premier League has released news of the entire fixture list for the upcoming 2019/20 season, which kicks off on Friday, 9th of August 2019, with Liverpool welcoming newly promoted side Norwich City to Anfield.
Between now and then, several new signings are expected to grace the Premier League, and following them will be millions of few fantasy football teams, perhaps a few managerial exchanges, and possibly an ownership takeover of Newcastle United. It promises to be a truly enthralling and unprecedented season of Premier League football, for it brings with it the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), as well a Winter Break in February for the players to catch their breaths after a relentless December and January spell.

Here it must be stated the dates mentioned in the article are prospective, and may be subject to slight adjustment due to broadcasting constraints. Additionally, the Boxing Day fixtures will be streamed live on Amazon Prime, after the American giant acquired the rights in a blockbuster deal. Furthermore, due to the start of the FA Cup circa 9th of November, and for the teams that qualify, the Champions League knockout stages in later months, a few teams may see their fixtures preponed or postponed depending on scheduling constraints.
Upon first consideration, it seems that of the newly promoted sides, Norwich City have been given quite a stressful start. With Liverpool away in the first round, they welcome a potentially start studded Newcastle United side (Contingent on the takeover going through) in the second week. This will be followed by visits by Chelsea and Manchester City in the next 3 weeks. Sheffield United have a tricky start to the season, with clashes against Bournemouth, Everton, West Ham, Leicester City and Crystal Palace in their first few weeks. Their December schedule will be pivotal to their league status, for they have games against sides who are likely to surround them in the league standings every 4-5 days.
Defending champions Manchester City haven’t been handed a very pleasing draw either. In 2 daunting spells, the Cityzens will have to face 4 of their Top 6 rivals in a span of only 6 weeks (November – December) and then 5 in 8 weeks (February – March). This is exacerbated by the onset of the FA Cup in November, and likely the Champions League knockout stages in Feb / March. Winter is well and truly coming, and Guardiola’s men best be ready to bring the heat.
