FIFA Postpones FIFAe Finals Following Attack In Saudi Arabia

FIFA and the Saudi Esports Federation have postponed the FIFAe Finals 2026, which were originally scheduled to take place in Jeddah from October 16 to 25. The decision follows security concerns and logistical challenges after a deadly attack on Riyadh’s international airport.

In a statement, the organisers said the postponement came after an assessment of recent developments in the region and their impact on the logistical arrangements needed to host the tournament.

The organisers added that further announcements regarding the FIFAe Finals 2026 would be made in due course.

FIFA also expressed its appreciation to Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Esports Federation for their support and cooperation during preparations for the event, recognising the kingdom’s experience in hosting previous editions of the tournament.

Deadly Attack on Riyadh Airport Raises Security Concerns

The postponement follows an attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10. According to the supplied report, the incident killed 12 people and injured 309 others.

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the strike, which was described in the report as the deadliest attack in Saudi Arabia in more than a decade.

The incident has raised concerns about the impact of regional security developments on major sporting and entertainment events scheduled to take place in the kingdom.

Six Kings Slam Tennis Event Also Postponed

The FIFAe Finals are not the only event affected by the situation. The Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition event in Saudi Arabia has also been postponed because of logistical challenges.

The event has been rescheduled for December 27–30, 2026.

The changes highlight the wider impact that regional developments can have on international sporting events, including tournaments involving prominent athletes and global audiences.

2027 AFC Asian Cup Could Face a Delay

The 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia could also face a potential postponement of one year following missile attacks in Riyadh, according to the supplied report.

The continental football tournament is currently scheduled to begin on January 7, 2027, with matches planned across Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar.

However, a one-year delay remains a possibility rather than a confirmed decision based on the information provided.

Organisers Assess the Impact on Upcoming Events

The postponement of the FIFAe Finals and the rescheduling of the Six Kings Slam underline the logistical challenges facing event organisers amid regional uncertainty.

Further updates on the FIFAe Finals 2026 are expected from FIFA and the Saudi Esports Federation. The schedule for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup will also be closely watched as organisers assess arrangements for the tournament.
