England fast bowler Brydon Carse is under investigation following a reported incident in Derby on Saturday night, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Sunday.
The investigation comes as England prepares for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s next week.
ECB Confirms Investigation
An ECB spokesperson confirmed that the governing body was aware of the reported incident and had begun investigating the circumstances.
“We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night and we are currently investigating,” the ECB spokesperson said.
The ECB has not provided further details about the nature of the incident.
Carse Was Not on England Duty
Carse is part of England’s squad for the upcoming second Test against Pakistan.
However, he was not on England duty when the reported incident took place. The fast bowler was an unused member of the squad during the first Test, which England won comfortably at Headingley.
The ECB has not confirmed whether Carse will remain with the squad for the second Test.
Investigation Comes Amid Off-Field Scrutiny
The latest development comes just days after England’s returning Test captain Joe Root spoke about the players being “really good role models and human beings” following a series of off-field incidents and allegations surrounding the team.
England cricket has faced increased scrutiny over player behaviour in recent months, particularly in relation to drinking and discipline.
Previous Controversies Involving England Players
During England’s tours last winter, Harry Brook was fined £30,000 ($40,908) following an altercation with a bouncer in Wellington.
There were also reports of players drinking during a mid-Ashes trip to Noosa.
More recently, captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson breached a team curfew during the summer. Both players were subsequently dropped from England’s second Test against New Zealand at The Oval.
Stokes later announced his retirement from international cricket, while Brendon McCullum was removed as England Test coach.
Carse’s Previous Disciplinary Record
Carse has faced disciplinary action previously. In 2024, the South Africa-born fast bowler was suspended from cricket for three months over historic betting offences.
The current investigation is separate from that previous case.
England’s Second Test Squad Status Unclear
The ECB has not confirmed whether Carse will continue as part of England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s.
The England team is scheduled to begin preparations for the match next week, with further details expected once the ECB completes its investigation.
Carse’s county side Durham has also been contacted for comment regarding the reported incident.
