England Advances to World Cup Quarter-Finals with Dramatic Shootout Victory

The Lionesses secured a spot in the World Cup Quarter-Finals after a thrilling 4-2 penalty shootout triumph against Nigeria on Monday.

Following a goalless draw in regular time and extra-time, England faced the challenge of being down to ten players when Lauren James received a red card in the 87th minute.

Bethany England entered the game during extra-time and played a pivotal role in both defense and offense, effectively thwarting Nigeria’s attacks while also contributing pressure in the attacking third.

The penalty shootout unfolded with England’s centre-forward taking the first shot and converting it by sending the ball down the middle. Georgia Stanway and Desire Oparanozie missed their shots, and Michelle Alozie’s penalty for Nigeria went over the bar.
