Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) has successfully concluded its 2026 Modern Sailing Summer Camp after four weeks of intensive training, welcoming children and young participants from diverse nationalities as part of its ongoing efforts to develop marine sports and nurture the next generation of sailing talent. The programme was held at Bulgari Beach Dubai and targeted children aged 6 to under 15.
The camp combined classroom instruction with practical on-water sessions under the supervision of experienced Emirati coaches, giving participants a solid foundation in the sport of modern sailing.
Comprehensive sailing training
Throughout the programme, participants learned the fundamentals of modern sailing, including:
- Boat handling and preparation
- Familiarisation with sailing equipment
- Water safety procedures
- Steering and navigation techniques
- Manoeuvring and changing direction
- Practical sailing skills through supervised sessions
At the conclusion of the camp, participants underwent practical assessments, with those meeting the required standards receiving the Level One Modern Sailing Certificate, marking the first step in their competitive sailing journey.
Developing future champions
Ahmed Al Smeiti, Director of Sports Teams at Dubai International Marine Club, said the success of the summer camp reflects the club’s commitment to expanding participation in marine sports and identifying promising young athletes.
He thanked the club’s Board of Directors for its continued support, as well as Dubai Municipality, parents and strategic partners for contributing to the programme’s success.
Promoting the UAE’s maritime heritage
The summer camp forms part of DIMC’s long-term strategy to encourage young people to participate in marine sports while preserving the UAE’s rich maritime heritage.
Officials said the initiative is designed to create a pathway for talented young sailors to progress through advanced training programmes and eventually represent the UAE in local, regional and international sailing championships.
