Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival to start tomorrow

Dubai Crown

All the UAE’s best long-distance stables and riders are present at the 17th Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival held at Dubai International Endurance City (DIEC) Seeh Al Salam from 7-11 January.

The Festival is run by the Dubai Equestrian Club in partnership with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation and ranks among the most prestigious on the UAE’s annual endurance calendar with the best Emirati riders battling it out with some of the best Emirates’ foreign competitors.

The four rides of the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival – 101 km Dubai Crown Prince Ride for Ladies Tuesday – are underway.

After the Ladies race, there is the 101-km Dubai Crown Prince Ride for Private Stables over the same track on Wednesday.

The third ride on the programme is the 120km Yamamah Endurance Cup for Mares on Thursday and the fourth and final is the televised Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup presented by Dubai’s global property development firm Emaar Properties (120km) on Saturday.

Endurance riding asks rider-horse teams to travel vast distances over difficult terrain and the challenge grows as strategy comes into play while the psychological and physical challenges of the sport challenge the human and the horse. Rider and animal welfare is the number one priority, and every single ride on the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival is run over a four-lane course.

MRM Stables are looking to stay in the race after they snatched the feature Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup with an electrifying victory last time thanks to Saif Al Mazrui and his mount Magic Glenn Torque.

M7 Stables opened last year’s festival with the Ladies contest following the win by Shaikha Ahmed Al Shehhi on Waterlea Sikorsky and in the Private Stables event, SS Stables’ Uruguayan rider Bryan Ferreira aboard Mario won. Al Wathba Stables also have the Yamamah Endurance Cup for Mares after they won the cup after Abdul Rahman Al Ghailani took it off SV Jessica.

About the competition, Sheikh Rashed bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Equestrian Club, said: “The Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival is one of the most popular endurance racing events in the world.

“With four rides on the programme and the much-anticipated, much-coveted main event, the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup, the festival puts the best riders and horses in competition and the outcomes have been unmistakable. We’ve had great runs, sometimes years haven’t even been slightly offsetting, we just go all-out for wins.”

The Deputy General Manager of Dubai Equestrian Club, Ahmad Al Kaabi, thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, for their support to equine life and endurance sports more specifically.

“The Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival is a significant endurance festival because it has Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s name attached to it and it is high on the global programme,” Al Kaabi said.

“We organise the Festival in recognition of Sheikh Hamdan’s immense achievements in endurance riding and his overwhelming support for equine sports.

“This will be the 17th edition of Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival and we are confident it will be one of the best festivals rebirths because all our team has been very dedicated and is eager to make sure the event is completely commensurate with the status.” said Jain.

Free entry is offered to Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Festival, so fans are welcome to come out and see what happens when the combination of sport and endurance, grit and resolve and strategic planning by riders and team comes together.
