Dani Olmo: The Leading Force in RB Leipzig’s Quest for Success

Amid the whirlwind caused by Harry Kane’s debut with Bayern Munich, it was Dani Olmo, the standout player for RB Leipzig, who captured the spotlight by securing victory in the DFB Supercup. This triumph hinted at the remarkable prospects that lie ahead for the Spaniard in the upcoming season.

Hailing from Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy, Olmo made his move to Leipzig in January 2020, at the age of 21, with boundless potential ahead of him.

Leipzig managed to fend off competition from some of Europe’s most prominent clubs to secure El Mago’s signature. His inaugural full season at the Red Bull Arena (2020/21) clearly demonstrated that the Catalan midfielder was indeed worth the hype.

During that season, Olmo amassed an impressive tally of nine assists and five goals in the league, in addition to netting singular goals in both the DFB Cup and the UEFA Champions League. These performances contributed to Leipzig’s second-place finish in the Bundesliga, their advancement to the Champions League’s round of 16, and their presence in the German cup final, where they were defeated by Borussia Dortmund.

Since then, Leipzig has clinched two consecutive DFB Cup titles, marking the club’s first major silverware in its history. Olmo played a pivotal role in both victories, including converting a penalty in the shootout against Freiburg during the 2021/22 season, and making significant contributions with five goals (comprising one goal and four assists) across the semi-final and final matches in the 2022/23 season.
